Current research in the field of trauma is showing that treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder cannot be approached in a “one size fits all “manner.  The effects of trauma vary greatly depending on the type of trauma, as well as the severity and duration of the trauma. There has been rapid advancement in formulating specific treatment approaches for specific types of traumatized populations. Urban Violence Traumatic Stress Response Syndrome (UVTS) is a concept developed by Dr. Erwin Randolph Parsons. It is also worth noting that although we see this most often in inner-city youth, it can occur anytime a youth is being raised in a violent and chaotic environment with insufficient parental guidance and supervision.
